SF Decorator Showcase: Playful Trim in Teen Suite

What happens when bathroom trim ideas grow up—just a little—but still keep their sense of humor? You get “The Nest,” a heartwarming duo of rooms designed by L+P Interiors for the 2025 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Created with a teenage girl in mind, this secondary bedroom and Jack-and-Jill bath show how thoughtful moulding and artistic expression can foster both comfort and self-confidence.

A Room for Rest—and Takeoff

The bedroom is equal parts softness and strength. Wrapped in whimsical bird wallpaper, the room feels grounded by richly painted crown moulding, casings, and baseboards in a muted plum tone. These architectural features frame each surface like a storybook page—pulling attention to the unique wallcoverings and layered textures without overwhelming the space.

Rather than leaning fully into childhood or pushing prematurely into adulthood, the room holds both: a canopy floats over a green and gold headboard, a soft rug lines the floor, and curated artwork by contemporary female artists brings complexity. The millwork quietly supports this duality. It doesn’t shout—it structures.

Jack-and-Jill, Reimagined: Bathroom Casing Splashes

Through a pair of plum-trimmed doorways, the bathroom introduces a brighter rhythm. Green-grey door casings and ceiling moulding transition gracefully from the earthy tones of the bedroom to the lighter, modern hues of the bath. Custom cabinetry in the same plum paint reinforces visual continuity, while simple baseboards and casing profiles keep the geometry clean and purposeful.

These small space trim ideas work wonders—especially in a layout designed to be shared. The double vanity, geometric tile, and playful accents (like the flamingo perched in the tub) all feel deliberate. Nothing is fussy, and every detail invites joy.

Kid-Friendly and Grown-Up Ready

The entire Nest + Bath ensemble is a case study in what happens when kid-friendly, durable profiles are elevated by strong design instincts. Trim isn’t just an add-on here—it’s the thread that holds the narrative together. From bathroom casing to bedroom outlining, every decision speaks to a space that supports dreaming, growing, and launching.
